Wanrong soft-headed drums and gongs, as one of China’s traditional percussion, is famous for Its features of big cymbals, heavy gong and soft-headed drumstick. In the thesis, by using the theories of folklore, form the viewpoint of Intangible Cultural Heritage the author deep analyzed the source, history, successor, changes of succession form and social function of Wanrong soft-headed drums and gongs.The unique geographical environment of Wanrong County was the prerequisite for the creation of soft-headed drums and gongs, and the historical humanlstic factors made its own contribution to its process. As for the soft-headed drums and gongs today, not only did it retained its history of funeral and sacrifice, but absorbed several legend stories, which showed that the creation and development of fork custom depend on many factors.In the thesis, the author put an emphasis on the analysis of the succession of Wanrong soft-headed drums and gongs.firstly, the author analyzed the successor of soft-headed drums and gongs. By analyzing the ways of choosing successors and the competition among successors, we could know the current situation of the successors of the soft-headed drums and gongs. The successful inscription of Wanrong soft-headed drums and gongs would poised ahigher demand for successors. Secondly, the author analyzed theways of the succession of soft-headed drums and gongs. The thesissummarized it in three aspects: spontaneous learned, familyinheritance and apprenticeship. Then I talked about the changesof succession forms which consisted of the changed of Inheritingthe subject, the renewing of inheritance concept and the alterationof teaching skills. The changes of succession forms would adjust itssocial functions. In the end, the author analyzed the changes of itssocial functions which involved the fade out of its education role,the new features of entertainment and competition.At the very last of the thesis the author made a forecast to thedevelopment of the soft-headed drums and gongs, and hopedWanrong soft-headed drums and gongs could remain its traditionalmerits and skills and absorbed new social custom which was theinner impetus to the development of Wanrong soft-headed drumsand gongs.
