Linguistic Culture Study On Street Names In The Process Of Urbanization

To be known as a regional "living fossil" and "name card", place name is a product of social history, which contains rich cultural connotation, we can know the location of culture through place names. Place names itself is also a member of language system, it has its unique in pronunciation, vocabulary and semantic. As a more active part in the system of place names, street names is the city’s "face", which directly records the changes in the city, its producing and changes has its own special rules, which records and witnesses the city’s historical and cultural connotation, the status of social life and the pursuit of aesthetic taste, reflects the relationship between social language and common development.In this paper, on the backgrounds of the urbanization of Jinhua prefecture level city which has a rapid socio-economic development process, the writer takes Jinhua’s street names as research object, and investigates Jinhua street names’language features, naming methods and reflect the cultural characteristics of the city from the synchronic perspective so that the road street names in Jinhua city reflects the unique regional culture. On the basis of synchronic analysis, this paper studied Jinhua’s street names’historical changes from a diachronic point of view, and find three changes for street names:keep using old names, disappear and increase, names change. Thus comes conclusion:street names’ change is not only affected by the political, historical and other factors, but also with the city’s own construction and development which are closely related, when naming street names, we should follow the unity of practical function and the aesthetic function. Finally, on the basis of the study above, the paper provides constructive suggestions and countermeasures for the street naming in the process of urbanization:while scientific norms in street names, effectively manages the street name system, we should fully excavate the characteristics of local history and culture, to create a street name brand which includes abundant local city cultural characteristics.
