Literature on pacificatory intermarriages has been drawing the attention of generations of scholars and certain research achievements have been reached in this field. Most scholars have been focusing their research on a single literary genre; while the overall features of different creating groups haven’t been paid enough attention to. Pacificatory intermarriages have only been mentioned by several scholars in the specific literary genre generated in Hexi district and other national documents. This paper, after studying numerous poems on pacificatory intermarriages during the Han and Tang Dynasties through the methodology of text analysis, comparative study and interdisciplinary research, mainly analyses and discusses the different attitudes of different creating groups towards the pacificatory intermarriage. First, this paper gives a brief introduction of the concepts of the pacificatory intermarriage and pacificatory intermarriage literature, presents an overview of Han and Tang dynasties’ pacificatory intermarriages, and analyzes and summarizes the historic influences of pacificatory intermarriages. Second, this paper studies plenty of poems in the Han Dynasty about the pacificatory intermarriage of Wang Zhaojun in both scholars’literature and folk literature, and compares the two different kinds of creating tendency. Scholars tended to create a tragic image out of Wang Zhaojun to express their depression of unrecognized talent, and only a few scholars praised the special influence the intermarriage achieved in their poems. While local literature, from the aspect of an ordinary laborer, showed the writers’ humanistic care for Zhaojun; several works even created a kind goddess image out of Zhaojun to express their willingness to improve the production level and life quality. Last, this paper analyses literature works about the pacificatory intermarriages between the Tang Dynasty and the Tibetan Regime. This part of the paper mainly compares the different attentions attached to two princesses-Wencheng and Jincheng in the Han and Tibetan literatures. The intermarriage of Wencheng is seldom mentioned in the Han’s literary works, but is highly praised in the Tibetan folk songs and stories. Quite the opposite from Wencheng, the intermarriage of Jincheng was frequently appeared in the literary works of the Han scholars but little mentioned in the Tibetan literature. The fundamental reason results in this is the malitary strength disparity between the Han Dynasty and Tibetan Regime and the unbalanced importance they attached to the pacifictary intermarriage.
