The Study On The Relations Among Social Support, Self-Concept And Resilience About College Instructors

The study selected 260 college instructors in the Quanzhou area as the objects. On the basis of previous researches, the study analyzes the current situation of social support, self-concept and resilience of college instructors and the relations among them by SSRS, TSCS and RSA, which aims to uncover the causes and provide psychology theories in order to improve the level of resilience of college instructors.The findings:(1) The college instructors own relatively satisfactory social support, and significant differences exist in the social support level related to marriage, teaching years, titles and monthly salary, while the differences appear unapparent in other dimensions:The level of social support and other dimensions of married instructors is higher than that of unmarried instructors; instructors with long length of teaching scored higher than those with short length of teaching in social support and obective support; instructors with higher title scored higher than those with lower title in social support, subjective support and obective support; instructors with more monthly salary scored higher than those with less monthly salary in obective support.(2) The level of self-concept of college instructors is good in general, whose differences appear apparent in terms of gender, marriage,the length of teaching,title, the nature of the school and monthly wages, while the differences appear unapparent in other dimensions:The level of moral self of female instructors is higher than that of male instructors. The level of psychological self and self satisfaction of married instructors is higher than that of unmarried instructors while the level of self-criticism of unmarried instructors is higher than that of married instructors. The level of physical self, moral self, psychological self, family self, self satisfaction,self action and scores of instructors with longer length of teaching is higher than that of shorter length of teaching. The level of moral self of instructors with higher title is higher than that of instructors with lower title.The level of moral self of instructors in public colleges than that of instructors in private colleges. The level of psychological self, social self, self satisfaction,self action and scores of instructors with higher monthly wages is higher than that of instructors with lower monthly wages.(3) The level of resilience of college instructors is ordinary in general. The difference is apparent when it comes to gender and marriage, while it has insignificant differences in other dimensions:The social ability of male instructors is higher than that of female instructors while the married instructors scored higher than the unmarried instructors in this dimension.(4) The social support and self-concept, and self-concept and resilience both show significant correlation while the social support and resilience doesn’t show any significant correlation.(5) Resilience scores and self concept scores, moral self, family self,self concept, self action show significant positive correlation. Self efficiency of resilience and moral self of self concept, self concept show significant positive correlation.Organization style of resilience, social support, subjective support and physical self show significant negative correlation while organization style of resilience and self-criticism show significant positive correlation. Socil ability of resilience, psychological self and self action show significant positive correlation while socil ability of resilience and self-criticism show significant negetive correlation.(6) Family cohesion of resilience and the three dimensions of the social support show significant positive correlation, and it also shows significant positive correlation with self concept scores, physical self moral self, psychological self, family self, self concept, self satisfaction and self action.(7) The self-concept of college instructors has significant predictive effects on resilience, to be specific, the self-concept can predict 2.2% of the amount of variation, and the moral-ethical self from self-concept can predict the 4.9% of the amount of variation of resilience.(8) The high and low resilience of college instructors show significant differences in moral-ethical self from self-concept. The level of moral self of instructors of higher resilience is higher than that of instructors of lower resilienceThe level of resilience of college instructors is the result of inside and outside protective factors that work together. From the conclusion of this study, the self-concept exerts deep influence on the resilience of college instructors, and some dimensions of social support also has certain impact on resilience. Therefore, to change wrong recognition, improve working environment and deepen the spread of approval and support is an effective way to increase the level of resilience of college instructors.
