A Practice Report On The Translation Of The Pretty Little Liars

This translation practice report is based on the translation of the excerpts of The Pretty Little Liars, and the translation is from English to Chinese. The report includes the following five parts: Task Description, Process Description, Pre-translation Preparation, Case Analysis and Summary. The task description gives a brief introduction on the source of the task and The Pretty Little Liars. The process description gives a brief introduction of the translation process, including three stages: preparation, translation and review. The part of the pre-translation includes three aspects. The first aspect is consulting the materials of the author of The Pretty Little Liars. The second aspect is making a summary about the style after reading the whole book. This novel is a mystery novel about the youth. The third aspect is observing the characteristics of the language and the structure of the arrangement through reading other mystery novels by the domestic authors, which can make the translation conform to the reading habits of the domestic readers. As the core of the report, the case analysis part includes two aspects. Firstly, on the lexical level, the report lists four specific translation methods with the examples: equivalence, specification, amplification, conversion and expansion. Secondly, on the sentences’ level, the translator lists three specific translation methods with the examples: division, combination and restructuring. Thirdly, three methods used in the rhetoric translation are listed with analysis. In the part of the summary, the report concludes that the experiences have been gathered and the cofidence of practice has been improved. And in this part, four problems appeared in the translation have been listed and the methods of improvement have been put forward too.
