The Translation Of Syntactic Markedness From The Perspective Of Stylistic Markers Theory: A Translation Report Of We Were Liars

“We are Liars” is a suspense story of teenagers, the plot is designed through the combination of illusion and reality, alternating between chronological and reverse chronological order. Thus, the storyline is full of mysteries and suspenses, expecially, the use of its language presents a unique style. Due to the unique expression of language, the novel is characterized by a distinctive poetic and prose style. This kind of style festures conveyed by the special forms of language adds unique flavor and aesthetic value to the novel. Given this, in the course of translating, we can’t ignore the study of those special forms, which embody certain stylistic features. In the selected chapters of the novel, the stylistic features are reflected by the repeated use of the deviation of sentential forms, manifesting as the parallel and overlap of sentence components, the lack of sentence components, and the deviating logical relation of the sentence. The repeated deviating syntactic forms are the syntactical markers. In other words, behind these intentional deviation there must lie the speakers intention. All of these manifest the unique language features and aesthetic value of the novel. So, these three kind of syntactic markers are of important aesthetic function, they appears as an inevitable linguistic phenomenon in the process of transalting. Without enough attention to the analysis of the syntactic markers, the aesthetic value of the original work will hard to be reproduced.Therefore, in this article, basing on the analysis of the representative syntactic markers, the author will apply the stylistic markers theory and its classfications to the study of translation strategies of the three typical syntactic markers. Firstlty, the study focuses on the the introduction of the theory about stylistic formal markers, from the relationship between the theroy and the material selected, it manifest the style characteristic and the syntactic markers of the text. Secondly, basis on the analysis of the three typical syntactic markers, the study tries to combine its style characteristics with the style symbol escape code resonanblely, so as to direct the concrete translation cases in a proper way. Finally, the study mainly focuses on the specific analyses of the three typical syntactic markers under the three guiding principles, from all these analysis and the case study, the author summarizes and extracts the specific translation strategies and techniques.Under the guidance of the style symbol escape code, the study tries to prove that effective study of the style is helpful for the translators to grasp the style of the original work. In addition, it contributes to the author’s proper interpretation from the original work. Here, the translatability of style mentioned above refers to most of the stylistic formal markers, which are translatable.
