Indonesian Overseas Chinese Leader Xu Dongliang And The Development Of Huaqiao University

It is obvious that the elite of Chinese ove rseas community have certain influences on the local society. For they not only keep a watchful eye on overseas Chines e enterprises, but also pull together to m ake common pr ogress. The case study of Indonesian overseas Chinese leader Xu Dongliang reveal s the contributions of overseas Chinese education in China, especi ally in the dom ain of domestic overseas Chinese teaching. On the basis of data analy sis and oral access an d from Xu Dongliang and the vision of the developm ent of Huaqiao University, this thesis tends to explore the patriotic spirit, the practice and its impact on the history of education.The article consists of three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion. Starting by Xu Dongliang’s life environment and era background, the main part expounds two points: the first is how he began from ordinary expatriates, then the backbone, eventually into a patriotic overseas Chinese leader; the se cond is his involvem ent in the foundation of Huaqiao University. In his span as a vice chairm an of the board of directors, the board of directors of Huaq iao University, chairman of the Hong Kong education foundation, we mainly focus on his contribution to the educational system and school construction, thus revealing the characteristics in the forming of Huaqiao University and his contribution to the domestic overseas Chinese teaching.Huaqiao University was established at the early years of new China as a h igher institution for overseas Chinese, which is a manifestation of the state’s high attention to the overs eas Chinese affairs. During the de velopment of Huaqiao University, a batch of patriotic overseas Chinese, such as Xu Dongliang concerned the motherland’s overseas Chinese teaching car eer. The interaction between overseas Chinese schools and overseas Chinese is not only the inheritance of Chinese spirit, also the accumulation of more experience for the development of domestic education. Xu Dongliang strongly supported the domestic overseas Chinese teaching as well as other affairs. By analyzing his contribution to the development of Huaqiao University, we can see the importance of the overseas Chinese affairs carrying out by the returned overseas Chinese, as well as th e role as a bridge of the implementation of the policy of overseas.
