The Pilot Study On The Music-oriented Quality Education To Overseas Chinese Students In Huaqiao University

Overseas Chinese students broadly refer to two layers. One are students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan (relative to mainland china); the other are from foreign countries with Chinese origin or non- Chinese origin (relative to Chinese nationality). Here in the essay, the overseas Chinese student is of the sense.With the increasing enhance comprehensive national strength and international status, more and more Overseas Chinese students have come to mainland china to pursue their studies. Nowadays an increasing number of colleges and universities recruit these students to meet the trend. They come form different countries and regions with different cultures, family backgrounds, schooling foundations, beliefs and thoughts etc., therefore it is an important task to impart the cultural knowledge (especially in music) among the group of students. To the teaching staff , how to carry out the task in a pertinent and effective way is a significant subject to study.The thesis focuses on the musical education situation currently in Huqiao University where the overseas Chinese students are rather populated. It expatiates upon the importance and necessity to implement music-oriented quality education among the overseas Chinese students in accordance with the questionnaire survey. On the pilot study on students' musical mentality, it sets forth the monoculturalism-dominated & multiculturalism-mingled idea on the musical education to Overseas Chinese students . The thesis goes on to offer the teaching pattern and blue print guided by the idea. The study well conforms to the original purpose of founding the University ie."serving the overseas Chinese and spreading the Chinese culture", and the idea of "Cultivating students who thoroughly understand China and the world, and are with both lofty virtue and high-level professional competence". On the other hand it aims to enable students to nurture themselves in Chinese culture and carry forward the tradition of Chinese musical culture as well as to enhance a sense of cultural identity and form the Chinese national consciousness in the course of carrying out the musical quality education.
