The Identity Construction In Taiwan Youth Films Of The New Century

Taiwan youth films in the new century have rich connotation and unique characteristic. They not only show the change of Taiwan’s local social culture, but also reflect the identity approbation of Taiwan’s new generation. To discuss the construction of identity in Taiwan youth films, the thesis consists of four parts. The introduction part primarily defines the concept of youth film and recognizes the connotation of identity.Chapter I mainly expounds the national identity of the Taiwan youth films. Studying the relationship between characters and settings, we can find the urban civilization and the local culture in the films reflect different national identity. Chapter II takes the parent-child relationships as the breakthrough point, exploring the changes of cultural identity in Taiwan youth films. Chapter III mainly analysis the queer phenomena. Identity construction is influenced by the political, economic and cultural environment. These three aspects can embody the interactive relationship of "the local" and "the exotic", "tradition" and "modern", "self" and "the other".
