Practice Report On The Translation Of Elizabeth Is Missing

This translation practice came from one of the translation assignments from my supervisor. It evolves around the British best-selling novel called Elizabeth is missing,the Chinese version of which is supposed to be published by the Chongqing Press and Publication Bureau in April, 2015. The editor commented on the translation saying it generally conforms to correct understanding, smooth language and aesthetic value of literature. However, some specific words and sentences still need to be improved.This translation practice report includes an introduction, analysis, reflection and conclusion drawn during the whole translation process. The form it takes is from English to Chinese. The report is composed of five parts: task description, process description, preparation, case analysis and summary. The first part has a lot to do with the source, basic contents and requirements of the task. The second part aims at introducing the detailed stages of the whole process of translation. The third part centers on the preparation before getting started. It makes an accurate analysis of the language features in response to the given task and illustrates the reference books and dictionaries I prepared. The forth part involves the analysis of the case from the perspective of word, sentence, paragraph and reverse thinking respectively, combining theory with practice. It is the core of this report. The fifth part is a brief summary made to generalize the gains and experience obtained through trial and error. After this translation practice, I have developed an unique insight into translation and formed a correct attitude towards it. Meanwhile, I can put what I’ve learned during practice into flexible use.
