Susan Susan ?ar?evi? New Approach to Legal Translation is an important academic work on legal translation. By combining theory with practice, this book illustrates several important issues in legal translation. The flourishing of legal translation in China is also attributable to the theoretical support of this book. However, this book has not been translated into Chinese, so the author of this report decides to translate Chapter six of the book for legal translation learner?s reference. In terms of style, New Approach to Legal Translation is an academic work; in terms of content, it is a work on legal translation. This translation practice is guided by Zhao Wenjing?s translation of Translation and Conflict: A Narrative Account and the translation criteria of legal translation put forward by Li Kexing and Zhang Xinhong. In this report, the author first introduces the nature and features of the source text and then analyses this translation practice from the lexical level, syntactic level and textual level in light of the features of academic works and its legal content. The author hopes to thoroughly understand the source text through this translation practice and to apply the theories on legal translation included to future translation practice.
