Historically, less importance has been placed on translation study of Young Adult literature. With current translation studies of teenage literature, more discussion is biased towards European works instead of British and American ones. Furthermore, the relevant theoretic and empiric studies are inadequate compared with those on translation studies of adult literature. The target readers of teenage literature are teenagers whose sense of language uses, acceptability, social psychology and aesthetics are different from adults. Therefore, the author introduces the best-seller book The World According To Bob(2014) to Chinese readers and makes suggestions regarding the translation of young adult literature.Throughout the translation, with readers-orientation in Reception Aesthetics Theory as guidance, the author makes every effort to achieve vivid, concise and musical expression in order to attract readers’ attention and arouse their interest. The author holds that in translating teenage literature, the choices of diction or language usages should conform to the children’s language style, e.g. simplicity, conciseness, vividness and image-prominence. Rhetoric methods could attract children’s interest and child-entertaining effect. Using annotation can provide necessary background information about the original culture. This report discusses the findings in teenage literature translation from the perspective of reception aesthetics. Since this theory focuses primarily on the role and status of readers’ dynamic activity of reception in literary communication, the translated text could be accepted and understood by the target readers. The translator should take the reader’s ideology, moral sentiment, aesthetics and also their intuition, tolerance and acceptance into consideration. All these viewpoints are of great importance to translating teenage literature.Based on the empiric studies of translating practice, the report puts forward five principles in the E-C translation of teenage literature. The first is principle of contextual adequacy. The second is conciseness and concreteness in choices of concepts. The third is vividness and expressiveness in depicting characters and figures. The fourth is simplification of syntactic structures. The fifth is artistic presentation of rhythm, rhymes and tones. Guidedby these five principles, the case study mainly discusses the translator’s solution and translation strategies from word level, syntactic level, rhetoric level and using annotation. The author sincerely hopes that the report on the translation of The World According To Bob will provide some useful references to future learners in the field of E-C translation of teenage literature.
