Detective novel mainly describe a case and its reasoning process,is one of the most popular types of literature.At present,there is a lack of logic and objective detective novels for young adult readers in China's book market.Thus the translation of this type of novels will help to enrich the teenagers'reading choice and enlighten their thinking.The Mystery at Lilac Inn--the fourth book of Series of Detective Novels of Nancy Drew,a best seller in Britain and United States during the later half of last century.Both the main characters in the novel and the target readers for this translation are teenagers.The original novel,with its simple words,short sentence structure,and concise paragraph construction,is accordant with the young readers' reading habits.This report mainly discuss how to translate The Mystery at Lilac Inn on readers' reception theory.The report includes five parts.The first part mainly introduces the background,significance of the practice and the structure of the paper.The second part mainly describes the translation process as catering to the characteristics of youngster readers.The third part is a brief introduction of the novel as well as Readers' Reception Theory.In the fourth part,I present typical examples and translation strategies informed by the Readers'Reception Theory.These strategies are specifically word choices,shifts between long and short sentences,culture diversity,and emotional expectations.The last part summaries the report and states the limitations and gains.
