With the opening up to the world and improvement of people’s living standard in China, more Chinese people are willing to learn more about foreign cultures. Being one of the most important media, films have taken its role to improve people’s emotional lives and embrace them with wisdom. This report records the writer’s interpreting field practice at the press conference of the film the Fruit Hunters in Guang Zhou International Documentary Festival. There are four chapters in this report, among which the first two chapters give a detailed description of the whole process of the interpreting practice. During interpreting, the author figured that the biggest problem during the whole process was lack of fluency, which decreased the quality of the interpreting practice. By noticing that problem, the author then reviewed some theories of evaluating the overall quality of interpretation performance from some former researches, and then summarized the features manifested in this text so as to specify the factors that affect the fluency of interpreting performance. In the same time, the author also analyzed specific cases concerning fluency, comparing the original audio and transcriptions, classifying and analyzing the factors that affect the fluency of this interpreting task. And finally, based on the results of analysis, the author will briefly give some advice for those whose first language is Chinese, about how to improve fluency while doing English to Chinese consecutive interpreting. The writer hopes that this report can provide some enlightenment for student interpreters or interpreter trainees to perform better in similar situations.
