This is a translation project report on What Does Frequency Have to Do with Grammar Teaching by Douglas Biber. The author is a famous professor of linguists in Northern Arizona University. Using frequency findings from corpus linguistics, Douglas explores the relationship between the information presented in ESL-EFL materials and what is known about actual language use based on empirical studies.The report includes the difficulties encountered in the process of translation and the corresponding translation strategies and techniques illustrated with typical examples based on the framework of Shopostherie. As a kind of informative text, there are numerous lengthy sentences lurking in the source text and constituting the translation difficulties that fall into the focus for the translator. As Chinese is characterized by hypotaxis and English is featured in parataxis, the author made efforts to transfer from long and complex sentences or clauses into the corresponding Chinese simple sentences or clauses, which call for translation methods related to Skopostherie.The translation project report consists of four chapters. The chapter is about the translation project description, including the project background, the objectives, the significance and the structure of the report. In the second chapter, the background information of the author, the main contents, the stylistic analysis and the linguistics features of the source text are illustrated. The third chapter focuses on the difficulties encountered in translation and the translation skills adopted in the translation process. The last chapter summarizes the experiences gained by the translator and the insufficiencies that should improve in the future.
