The Research On The "Daya ·Minlao" Of The Book Of Songs

Daya-Minlao is an allegorical poem of profound meaning and rich connotations. It mainly describes how Shao Mugong dissuades King Li from curbing villains to stabilize the nation and people. The whole poem consists of five chapters with each chapter containing ten sentences. Chapter one portrays that their primary goal is to make the people stable in the way of soothing neighbors. Chapter two persuades the King not to give up the former credit in order to get the glorious achievements. Chapter three persuades the King to behave properly and be close to the virtuous persons. Chapter four warns the emperor of his great responsibility and chapter five points out the gist of his offensive admonishment.On the basis of extensive documentation, background information of Minlao and methods of exegesis, this paper explains Minlao from the perspective of written time, writer, gist, textual research of words appreciation and comment. This paper helps reader to understand the course of elaboration of the poem comprehensively and it is significant for restoring the poem. About the creative era of Minlao, there are four viewpoints:age of King Li, Republic time, age of King Yi and age of Xia Jie. The writer thinks it is the age of King Li that the poem is created based on the ancient documentation and the views of modern scholars. Most of the scholars believe that the author of Minlao is Zhao Mugong but this paper does not analyze the question because of the lack of historical data and documents. The writer applies the view of most scholars on the background of Zhao Mugong assassinating King Li.The school of Zunxu and the school of Feixu argue about the gist of Minlao all the time and the main divergence lies in the difference between assassinating King Li in the Preface to the book of songs and Zhu Xi’s Jietonglie. The writer thinks that the view of assassinating King Li is in agreement with the original intention of the poet in high level, which is on the basis of the interpretation of the keywords, the background of the age of King Li, specific chapters of the Book of Songs and pre-Qin books.In order to prove the gist of assassinating King Li further, this paper consults the whole discourse system of the Book of Songs and combines the poetry context. It mainly applies the method of exegesis and also explains some ambiguous words like Rong sui xiao zi, Wang yu yu ru、Qi ke xiao kang、Rou yuan neng er.The fourth part of this paper arranges and evaluates the documents of appreciation and comment of Minlao from ancient China, Japan and Korea so as to excavate the economic criteria and literary value of the poem, presents the whole of Minlao fully and its influence on the coming days.
