During the period of Anti-Japanese War, as the first Anti Japanese base areas behind enemy lines established by the Communist Party of China, the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border region became a strategic area where CPC implemented anti-japanese national salvation policies. In view of the reality that People’s cultural level was backward and there were many illiterates in border area, border region government carried out a wide range of social education across these areas, and always adhered to the principle of production and life, in close connection with the war.Through implementing political education, health education, sports and production,and a variety of other social educational activities, the cultural level of the people was improved,at the same time,the politics participation enthusiasm of the people was stimulated, which effectively promote the cause of Anti Japanese War in border region and had laid a solid foundation for the victory of the war.For a long time, the studies on social education of Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border region have focused on the development process and the organizational form, content and function to make general introduction and historic description,which payed more attention to the study of literacy education, but lacked of deeper analyses in how social education to promote the political mobilization of border region, etc.. Studying social education in the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border region, this paper centers on some counties of northeastern Shanxi for microscopic investigation to sort and analyze the practical situation of the border region social education through case and monographic studies. This thesis investigates social education mass literacy movement,at the same time,not limited to education itself, but highlights the political function of social education in the development of the border area.This paper is composed of four chapters. The first chapter discusses the background of the border region when the social education was carried, mainly taking counties of northeast Shanxi as the breakthrough point, from the two perspectives of social cultural environment and the two requirements of construction of the border region Anti-Japanese War, to sort and introduce the background of social education carried out in border region. The second chapter discusses the basic situation of the border social education, respectively from the aspects of policy, organization form,systematically describing and combing the overview of social education in Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border region.The third and fourth chapters are the focus of this paper. The third chapter investigates and analyzes the concrete practice of the social education in the border regions,respectively from three aspects,the social education intellectual enlightenment, combination of the production and education and combination of all the work and education. The fourth chapter focuses on ideological transformation of the people, the reconstruction of the rural social relations, and border region people’s political participation influenced by social education,in order to highlight the political function of social education.
