Children’s literature plays a crucial role in the growth of children, so it should never be ignored how the quality of their translated texts influence children readers. The book The Chinese Boy and Girl can not only help children readers accumulate their knowledge and enrich their life, and also provide valuable research materials for the Chinese folk children’s literature, all of which endows its Chinese translation with great significance. At the same time, when translation learners take translation skills training, it can help them grasp the corresponding translation skills if they translate the English version with Chinese culture and literature elements back by comparing the differences in exotic culture and language background.Based on the above considerations, the author chooses the book for the translation practice report, in which the author summarizes through the practice and compares her own translated text with Wang Hongjuan’s version. In the light of Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory, the report focuses on the forward and back translation problems in four chapters of the source text’s from the perspective of duality. It analyzes such problems as how to deal with simple and short sentences, as well as long and difficult sentences, and meanwhile studies the parts involved in back-translation. Some representative examples are listed to help find and summarize up some methods and techniques to handle source texts with duality in the field of children’s literature translation. The author also discusses the problems and solutions to the translation task with duality, which provides proper practical reference for this kind of task.
