Study Of Yang Shi Social Control Thought

Yang shi was one of famous neo-confucianism in song dynasty. Yang shi had an essential position in neo-confucianism development of song dynasty between Chengs and Zhu Xi. The school of Daoan which he founded has had a profound impact in the academia. In order to resolve complicated social contradictions, Yang shi study Confucian and got some new ideas for solve the social crisis.There were two factors of Yang Shi formed his own ideas. One hand, the political self-consciousness of scholars had grown sharply. On the other hand, serious social crisis also pushed him to find an efficient way for resolving it. In order to demonstrate the concrete of the being of the world, Yang Shi constructed his philosophy system which based on “Li”, and his theory made an reasonable explanations to humanity,ethics, social norms, the origins of political order and so on. By the theory of“Universality and particularity”, he combined the abstract of natural-principles and concrete ethical norms, demonstrates their orientation and authority. Then, Yang studied the humanity systematically. He believed that "the nature of the world" is as same as the humanity which is supreme good and never been changed. "The nature of Qi" is a specific nature of human, which can be in good or bad. As the consequence, all of above were supposed to be the basement for social control possible. At last, his explanation on the relationship of “Justice and Interest” have provided moral guarantee for the implementation of social control.Social control is different from the class control. Its aim is to avoid large-scale conflict between each class and to maintain society stability. First of all, Yang thought that main target of social control from morality to behavior was monarch and officials.As monarch, not only to have a "heart is the heart of the world", pay attention to their own culture. As officials, they should have the consciousness of "maintaining morality,but also must be doers of the word" king "as his ideal life. At the same time, the monarch and minister should be discussed the event unitedly. Secondly, for the ruling class, people are the main object of social control. In order to make people better abide by the social norms, Yang claimed that he supported trade for people most basicmaterial needs. At the same time, scholars were significant class in ancient Chinese society. In order to making scholars under the orbit of social control, countries in the aspect of choose and employ persons must adhere to the principle of "restraining",against the eunuch interventions.In the late northern song dynasty, the eunuch authoritarian and political corruption had been serious problems. Yang thought that it is high time to repair the heart. The "Rectification of heart" is the foundation of the country. In essence, “Rectification of heart” is to “keep the humanity purity and remove the human desire”. Yang said "heart" is put forward, in order to correct the abuses of putting the cart before the horse, put an end to the occurrence of misconduct fundamentally.Although Yang’s social control thought was put forward by the current political situation and social control, have very strong pertinence. But due to the extreme corruption of song dynasty, Yang’s social control never put into practice. Therefore,Yang’s thought of social control failed in the control society and maintained social stability.
