China’s TV Drama Research Situation And Development Strategy

TV column drama, as a kind of column different from the traditional news、entertainment、social educational and life service column, meets the demand of audience ratings and has played a positive role in perfecting the TV program forms with its characteristics:localization、grassroots、low cost since it rose in 1994. But during the short span of 20 years, TV drama has experienced the course from the "blowout" stage to the struggling stage, now it presents an inevitable dilemma in its development course.This study which is based on the current development situation of TV column drama researches the reasons of the current dilemma and put forward a relatively scientific and reasonable development strategies of TV column drama from the perspective of philosophy and communication.This paper is divided into three chapters:The first chapter introduces the connotation and characteristics of TV column drama. TV column drama which combines "drama" and the TV column has five characteristics:the first is its narrative method is story-style; the second is its column-making and broadcasting are localization; the third is its dramatic feature; the fourth is its high yield and low cost; the fifth is the timeliness of its theme and scheme. These typical characteristics of TV drama also extend the three major social functions, namely, low threshold gives the audience more cultural rights; evasion of culture can bring the pleasure of victory to the audiences; cultural subversion can increase the audiences’interest in watching program.The second chapter presents the current dilemma of the development of TV column drama and discusses its causes. TV drama development dilemma is mainly manifested in four aspects:the first is the lack of independence; the second is the lack of subject; the third is vulgar content; the fourth is the rough production method. The research carries on the analysis on the causes of the development dilemma from two aspects:from the perspective of philosophy, TV drama provides audiences with a platform to express their opinion equally and democratically and to release their emotion, which also makes its selected topics are relatively narrow, production method is relatively coarse, actors’ performance relatively immature. This can make audience feel fatigue; From the perspective of communication, the subject don’t hesitate to reduce production costs in order to achieve high yield and low cost, which can reduce the quality of the program. From the content of communication, in order to attract audience’s attention, the TV column drama often reconstructs the scientific contents in exaggerating and sensational way, which will affect the interest of audiences. From the perspective of audience, the TV drama generally focused on local people, the makers don’t make sufficient researches on the audience psychological needs, which can cause the dull programs and affect the audience ratings.The third chapter puts forth the TV column drama development strategies. TV drama should base on the objective analysis on the core competitive power and form the core competitive advantage through innovation and maintain a healthy and sustainable development by the optimization of social responsibility、the specialization of scriptwriter the rationalization of local and regional characteristics, the diversification of production mode.
