A Study On The Phonology Of Shanxi Heshun Dialect

The subject of this thesis is the dialect of Heshun County. Through a comprehensive and systematic survey, we try to describe the phonology system of Heshun County and make simple analysis of some of its phonetic phenomenon.The thesis consists of six chapters.It first offers an introduction of the historical evolution, geography and population of Heshun County and introduce the situation of the research of the phonology system of Heshun County. Then, it describs on the Phonology system of this dialect, including initial consonant, final, Citation tone, tone sandhi, retroflex final, sound changes of suffix, glottal stop dropping, checkedization, characters have two phonetic forms with glottal stop or vowel final, divided-sound words and syneresis words and the literary and colloquial expressions. In the third chapter, a chart is presented to show the coordination between initial consonant, final and Citation tone. The fourth chapter, emphasis on comparisons of the Phonology systems between Heshun Dialect and Mid-century Chinese. The following chapter concludes some corresponding rules between Heshun dialect and Common Language. The last chapter includes a list of homophones in the dialect. It makes an alphabet by final of the monosyllabic words in the dialect.
