Yang Yisun (1813-1881), born in Chang Shu of Jiang Su Province, is a famous scholar, calligrapher and poet of Qing Dynasty. He masters Philology and Seal character and has made fairly high achievements in Philology, Calligraphy and Poetry. As a result of relatively desperate literature about Yang Yi Sun, the academic study of Yang Yi Sun is rare. The writer hopes to do some basic work of academic study by means of this article about Yang Yi Sun’s extraction, official career, origin of calligraphy, feature and impact of his calligraphy.Carding and concluding his works of poetry and literature, this paper uses the methods of literature research, plate analysis to do study in Yang Yi Sun and his calligraphy. This paper is divided into four parts to relate and analyze. The first part is the study of Yang Yi Sun’s life. It mainly research on his dates of birth and death, courtesy name, extraction, official career. The second part states Yang’s circle of acquaintances, and thus explore the origin of his calligraphy. The third part takes his two calligraphy books——"Past" and "Thirty items of dis cussing with child generation on book"——as an example, and analyze his viewpoint of calligraphy. The fourth part states the features of his seal character and Lishu by the means of comparative analysis of plates, and expound its impact.
