Study On Yang Shen'calligraphy

Yang Shen was the first place in the Dianshi in 1511 years and he was the most erudite intellectual in Ming Dynasty.Yang Shen was bom in a family that was very mannered and virtuous.Thus,he receive a good cultural education.Because of the cultural and political predicament in Ming dynasty,that is problem of the development of Song-Ming Neo-Confucianism,Yang Shen has put forward a solution that Chinese civilization should go back to Confucianism before Tang dynasty that a learning both sound in theory and practice.Yang Shen insisted that intellectuals should be learned first and then simplicity.ln such thought background,there was a close association between Yang Shen's literary thoughts and philosophical ideas.After the event of Yi Dali,Yang Shen was relegated to Yun Nan province.He lived in Yun Nan for more than three decades after official exile.Most of his works was finished and published in Yun Nan.Yang Shen has many works that related to Chinese Classics,historiography,Chinese painting and calligraphy,literature,phonology and so on.On those field,there are many academic works and related journal articles,but there was few study on Yang Shen's calligraphic thought and still lack of integrated system and profound understanding.This article has four parts.ln the First part of this article discussed Yang Shen's whole vicissitudes life and academic achievements as a whole.Second,Yang Shen has advanced education at home and at school as well as a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.These had a strong effect on Yang Shen's mind.Therefore,the narrative of Yang Shen's educational background and large circle of friends was so important.The third part of the article is Yang Shen's calligraphic thought.This part is so important that must combined his philosophic thinking with other related works as well as his extant works of calligraphy.There are four main points of his calligraphic thought.Namely,art is the Tao,understanding of the six categories of Chinese characters,Chong Jinyun and advocation of epigraphy.The last part is about Yang Shen's calligraphy styles which can support his calligraphic ideas futher.
