After the second half of the 19th century, as a result of the rapid industrialization and urbanization, the environment, culture and resources of US are facing a serious threat. In the background of the rapid development of environmental consciousness and environmental campaign, the landscape of the American West as a representative of American culture got a lot of attention, together constitute the historical, social and ideological foundation of the National Park. Yellowstone National Park as the world’s first national park formally established in 1872, with the strong advocacy from the US government and spontaneous push from civil society, more and more national parks came into the national park system. The national park of US in the development of hundred years, have formed a sound judicial, legislative and administrative system, which is at the forefront of the national parks in the world as leader. The development and management experience US National Parks accumulated, have an important reference for the development of national parks in other parts of the world, especially for China. This paper attempts to reproduce the historical process of US National Park system’s establishment and development, analysis the historical background, policy changes, ideological origins of this historical practice, explore the characteristics and inspiration of national park and provide reference to the park authorities for the management in other parts of the world.
