As the only Chinese director who has won in the Oscar, Ang Lee became the focus of many scholars. The theory and research about Lee’s movie is numerous and insightful. However, it is difficult to research Lee’s film from a breakthrough perspective, especially from a cultural point of view. After collecting, reading and analyzing the book and thesis of Lee and Lee’s film widely and carefully, the author finds that the Taoism in Lee’s film is a good point of view. The core of Chinese traditional culture consists of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Because of the historic, political and other factors, Taoism, which is native in China, has less influence than Confucianism and Buddhism. Few directors present Taoism into the film voluntarily. As Lin Yutang says in the book of "The Chinese", the nature of the Chinese is Taoism, and the culture of Chinese is Confucianism. But Taoism is stronger than Confucianism. Taoism is greatly integrated into people’s awareness. People always present the Taoist ideology on their behavior unctuously. On the basis of Lee’s movie in this thesis, after analyzing the Lee’s experience and culture preference, the author finds out the connection between AngLee and Taoism. The result of the research is that Lee is impressed by Taoism and he presents Taoism in his films initiatively. Further, the author researches the personal freedom, creative character of Taoism and film narrative, such as the Taiji pushing hands. At last, under the influence of Taoist aesthetics, Lee’s film transforms it into the visual aesthetic style: artistic beauty> natural beauty and tranquil beauty. The paper concludes that Lee has been trying to escape from the living environment and cultural environment caused by the oppressive conditions in order to find himself in art. He gets rid of the shackles of the living environment and cultural environment from art to seek the transcended road of the mind. The pursuit of the Taoist is one of the highest artistic spirits. The combination of Confucian and Buddhist in Lee’s work sees influence of his father but Lee chooses Taoism at last. The spiritual of Taoist is the freedom of individual life, emptiness, rustic character and freedom feelings, which are presented in his movie with special audio-visual effect. The movies have shaped the Taoist characters on the performance specifically. Meanwhile, they have the narrative Pushing Hands as well as the situation, artistic beauty、natural and tranquil beauty.
