Manchuria, as the origin of the Qing Dynasty and the very womb of Manchu nationality, Emperor Qianlong (Abkai Wehiyehe) sealed Manchuria in all directions soon after succeeding the crown. However, as soon as the sealing policy had carried out, it has been impacted constantly by the immigrant waves from the Chinese Proper. For researching the patrol system as the executor of the sealing policy in better conditions, the author selected the administrative region of Huncun Meiren i Janggin(Hunchun Vice-general), a territory which was less impacted by the immigrant waves for the research. Based on the organization and translation of the source files of the Archives of the Huncun Meiren i Janggin Yamun (Hunchun Vice-general’s Headquarter), consulting to other related archives and local chronicles. By combing and researching in details the geographical information related to the patrol system, this paper corrected the inaccurate ancient geographical names locaed by the previous scholars, and drafted the sketch maps of the patrol system of Hunchun Vice-general’s administrative region and established the background of historical geography in the paper. In addition, this paper summarized the very base and mechanism of the patrol system’s operation by analyzing specific cases under this background. Further more, this paper put the system in the economic and social conditions under the sealing policy for discussing the main factors which influenced the operation and the effectiveness of the system. In summary, based on the periodical conclusions, the paper analyzed the effectiveness of the sealing policy’s in Manchuria of Qing dynasty.
