Teaching Research Of Chaoming Xu’s Traditional Sheng Composition

Sheng is a mouth-blown free reed instrument, which has been spread from ancient China. It has played irreplaceable role in the field of court music, religious music, opera music and national music with its remarkable development of instrumentation. When it comes to the 20th century, sheng ushered in a revolutionary leap by enriching its textures and harmonies. After several decades’ joint efforts, it has become an independent instrument to create a unique performance form. Meanwhile, the actors of sheng have made great progress in playing and teaching. But sheng’s music heritage still attracts teachers’ attention in the contemporary society, Chaoming Xu, who is the master of sheng’s performing and educating, has witnessed sheng’s start-up, prosperous development and Explore innovative during his fifty years’ teaching career and trained many talents of sheng’s playing and educating all over the world. The author has followed him to learn the instrumentation and didactics for seven years. In the teacher’s words and deeds, the author has pondered over the master’s methodology to discusses it from three aspects:basic training didactics, composition didactics and regularity demands of composition’s annotation.
