The thesis focus on Wuwei's Sheng performance,based on research methodologies of Chinese traditional music theory,with the aid of research methods such as performance research,analytics,ethnomusicology,cross-culture reaserch and fieldwork information,and choose the most representative pieces to interpret his multi-cultural music thoughts and concepts.This thesis consists of introduction,text and conclusion.Introduction describes the research background,significance and give some introduces about related research.Moreover,this chapter defines two mainly concepts be mentioned in this paper.The first chapter focus on Wuwei's study and perfomance experience,and sum up his representative work and character from his all works and performance.The second chapter based on his new-music works.Korean composer Unsuk-Chin's piece ?u is selected,according to analyse feature of Sheng's harmony and the relationship between solo instrument and orchestra,trying to discuss the indentity and meaning of Wuwei how to participate in the composing process.The third chapter explores Wuwei's improvisational music in Chinese traditional instrument.Selecting MWX Trio's album Five Elements as the best music work,to analyse means about applying Chinese traditional music elements into improvisation.Trying to concludes the formulaic feature and non-formulaic feature of improvisation with Chinese traditional instrument.Chapter four based on the content of above chapters,combine Wuwei's interview contents,to set forth his performance concepts.On this basis,explains the phenomenon of Chinese crossover music from individually to the mass,and explores this phenomenon how related to the development of Chinese traditional music.Conclusion discuss the meaning both in theory and reality of this thesis.As a typical Chinese musician,Wuwei is taking part in widely music genre perfomance such as new-music,improvisation music and world music,and get a great influence on the world via Sheng.Under the background of tradition colliding with modernity and multicultural environment,Wuwei's music works and concepts is a epitome of Chinese musican who plays Chinese traditional instrument.This research presents the modernity changing of Chinese instrumental music,and rethink profoundly about contemporary survival and development of Chinese traditional music.
