There is a special group in YU Hua’s novels---the images of the children. Sometimes they are regarded as the direct narrative strategy to throughout the beginning and end of the story, for example Cries in the Drizzle; sometimes they are regarded as the opposite of the adult’s world to look at the suffering and absurd of them, for example To Live / Brothers; sometimes they are regarded as a vein of independent development to push the story to go forward well, for example Chronicle of a Blood Merchant / The Seventh Day; in a word,analyzing these children’s images are not only help us to master the deeper connotation and the gist of these works, but also help us to understand the relationship among the authors, the works and the times well.This thesis analyzes the children’s image in YU Hua’s novel mainly from three aspects: the manifestation, generate factors and deep meaning combined with the existing research, the author and his works, life experience and reader’s personal opinion.The first chapter analyzes the forms of expression of the children’s image in YU Hua’s novel. It mainly describes children’s personal experience, mannerisms, personality psychology, etc. These images are different from the common children’s cognitive we known before. Most of the children in YU Hua’s works are endowed with the qualities beyond their own age, and most of them have not only belongs to the adult age and pornography, but also full of adults’ blue colour.The second chapter analyzes the generation of children’s image in YU Hua’s novel. It develops mainly from two aspects: the author and the time. The writer’s own experience, either active or passive, will have an undoubtedly direct or profound influence on his work. YU Hua’s youth is accompanied by the smell of disinfectant in hospital and the Great Cultural Revolution. When he first goes into the literary world he coincides with China’s reform and opening up, this kind of coincidence is bound to affect his work of creation, and we can also see this impact from the children’s image in his works.The third chapter analyzes the deep implication of the children’s image in YU Hua’s nove. It mainly revolves around the children’s perspective and the ugliness of the children’s imag. The children’s perspective is used to portray the children’s image by YU Hua. Compared to the adult’s perspective, the children’s perspective is helpful for the author to enhance the effect of narrative and reflect the adult world.At the same time, we can find out that the children’s image in YU Hua’s nove is diffent from the children’s image in general. In terms of aesthetic, they are not beautiful, but when we analyse this ugly image in form deeply, we can find out the importance of beauty. Of course, when YU Hua describes the ugliness of the children’s imag, he is also unable to hold the dimension due to many reasons.
