The Research Of Indeterminacy Music

This paper has conducted the research to the Indeterminacy of the music clues, which emerges after the second half of twentieth Century, with four composers---John Cage, Stockhousen, Earle Brown, and Morton Feldman. In the context of postmodernism culture logic, Indeterminacy music is a clue that diametrically opposed to the integral serialism music one. After the Second World War, the West developed into the post industrial society, the enormous change has taken place in the fields of politics, economy, culture and art. These changes also penetrated into the field of music. This paper found the source of "indeterminacy" in the course of the human development firstly, and analysis the causes and characteristics of the "indeterminacy" clues which is under the social unrest and philosophy’s development. In first part, rationally explore the history, causes, definitions and characteristics of the "indeterminacy music", and distinguish the difference between some easily confused concepts, such as the "aleatory music", "chance music" and "improvisal music". In the second part, the author has carried on the classification to the John Cage, Stockhausen and other two composers’four examples of these works, the "indeterminacy" of research, and expounds the construction of these composers’method and the process of "indeterminacy". Finally, through the rational study of the "indeterminacy music" and the analysis of specific works, the author has a conclusion of indeterminacy music.
