The Theatrical Function Of Madrigal In Musical

This dissertation starts by analyzing the form of madrigal in musical and demonstrates the significant role that madrigal plays in dramatic expression by synthesizing various kinds of musicals in different time periods. In addition, based on practical experience, techniques of the composition that the author applied in composing the musical Biscuit are used to manifest how to combine music and drama and in the purpose of serving drama to get the best stage effect.The dissertation is divided into three chapters.In the first chapter, the definition of madrigal and the brief description of its historical development are given. According to its content and purpose in the musical, madrigal is divided into synonymous madrigal and conflicting madrigal, and the theatrical function of these madrigals in musical are differentiated.In the second chapter, focused on conflicting madrigal, the most important three forms of expression are listed and examples are included to demonstrate how they are expressed in different composers’classical compositions in different time periods.In the third chapter, the interaction effect of music and drama is elaborated based on the author’s practical experience in composing madrigal in the musical Biscuit.
