As an important part of promotion of Chinese Language, Mandarin-teaching volunteers is paid wide attention in the filed of Chinese as foreign language. For volunteers and Chinese teaching, it is important to study the role transformation from a student to a qualified teaching Chinese as a foreign language teachers.After a year of working as the Mandarin-teaching volunteer from the School of Sinology at Mae Fah Luang University in 2014 and based on the one-year observation, the author, with herself and the other 8 volunteers for subject, obtains information through in-dept interviews, studies case by combining theory and practice and displays a whole picture of the volunteers’ role transformation.This paper is composed of four sections:First part of the paper is the prolegomenon. It introduces the origin, objective and Significance of this topic research, explains the research status at home and abroad by the comprehensive study on the theory of a teacher’s role, the role of a language teacher and Mandarin-teaching volunteers and works out the breakthrough points to have the unique value of this research.finally, it points out the research method——interviews.Second part of the paper describes the process and features of the role transformation.This paper unfolds the three phases of the transformation and gets the conclusion that the role transformation of Mandarin-teaching volunteers have features such as:procedural issues, practical, complex.Third part of this paper analyzes the causes of the transformation from three aspects of volunteers themselves, teaching object and teaching environment. The causes consists of professional background, character traits and psychological state, teaching language and classroom management, psychological characteristics and learning characteristics of students, teaching conditions and teaching methods.Fourth part of this paper provides volunteers and the training institutions with strategies for the role transformation, mainly consists of 3 self-abilities of volunteers (reflective learning ability, language ability and psychological adjustment ability) and 4 perfections (perfect the view of teacher and student, perfect curriculum in universities and colleges as well as pre-post and Incumbency Training of "Hanban").
