Report On The Translation Of Collection Of Chinese Idioms And Allusions Stories

The traditional Chinese culture, both extensive and profound, has had a long history. Idioms and allusions stories, with concise form but deep and profound philosophy meaning, are the gems of Chinese traditional language and culture. Therefore, to translate idioms and allusions stories for children abroad will not only help our traditional culture to go out but also enhance the influence of Chinese civilization.On the basis of Collection of Chinese Idioms and Allusions Stories, the report mainly introduces and summarizes the overall process and performance of the translation practice. The translation strategies of the difficult and main points of the translation are analyzed from the perspective of intertextuality theory which is put forward by Julia·Kristeva, a French critic, semiologist and psychoanalyst.This report is composed of the following five chapters:Chapter one provides a brief introduction of the report. Chapter two illustrates the process of the project, including the source of the task, requirements for the selection, features of the task, which lay a solid foundation for the translation. Chapter three describes the whole translation process in detail, including the division of translation task, preparation of translation tools and references, analysis of parallel texts, selection of translation strategies and translation theory, analysis of the target readers, translation plan and proofreading of post-translation. Chapter four is about cases study based on the theory of intertextuality. The chapter also analyzes the translation of idioms and allusions, non-subject sentences, long sentences and Chinese ancient official titles through some typical cases. Chapter five is a conclusion of the whole report and the author also explains her limitations. The report has certain practical and reference implications for the future research and teaching of the translation of Chinese idioms and allusions stories.
