"Industrial Narrative" -The Historical Evolution Of Hubei Industrial Prints

Hubei Guns factory (also known as the Hanyang Arsenal), Hanyang Iron Works and other factories and enterprises were established in Hanyang and Hankou of Hubei was the smelting center of Wuhan, as early as in the late Qing Dynasty Westernization Movement, so Hubei industry had become the birthplace of national industry in China. The measures helped Wuhan of Hubei build a solid foundation for the rise of modern industry and economic development in Hubei.Wuhan withstood the test of time and continued to grow. Not only was the founding of industry centralized in Wuhan, but also the economic development of Hubei during the period of socialist industrialization construction. Wuhan had become the center of construction for the national economy. The implementation of the first five year plan allowed Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation to establish factories in Hubei creating a technical backbone for China, and Hubei has maintained its historical status in industry and became the central regions largest industrial city. The new development in the iron and steel metallurgy industry, granted a number of heavy industrial productions workers spare time. This gave birth to specialized amateur printmaking using the industrial narrative as the prints theme. So the industrial engraving groups based around an enterprise culture gradually developed. Hubei industrial prints originated in "WISCO" "YIYE" enterprise, from an amateur printmaking group into a professional print team with a number of high level artistic accomplishments. During the twentieth century at the beginning of the ninety’s Chinese Printmaking Industry Research Institute established a milestone in Hubei’s industrial engraving peak. Chinese Industrial Print Institute organized industrial engraving groups to set up industrial print Institutes throughout the country, making the industrial engraving groups gradually expand, and continue the promotion of Hubei industrial engraving prints by industry groups within Hubei Province. The desire for national and international expansion led to the jointly organized German exhibition, which allowed for the internationalization of the industrial print industry.This paper researches the Hubei industrial prints as a unique phenomenon based on the local culture, and describes the uniquely different art form compared to other print styles.
