| Hangzhou is the best place for printing books in the world. As is well known, the Song Dynasty was the peak period of China’s engraving and printing industry. At that time, the Zhejiang typeface had formed a unique regional style, characterized by the use of Ouyang Xun characters. After thousands of years of circulation,Zhejiang engraving is extremely precious today, and its exquisite and elegant font is universally recognized by later scholars and collectors. In recent years, there have been many research articles related to Song engraving fonts, but they often stay at the level of qualitative analysis to explore font styles.Currently, relevant research has summarized and reached a consensus on the changing rules of the Song typeface, but existing research has not fully answered the issues related to the European typeface, such as how the European typeface of Zhejiang engraving absorbed the characteristics of Ouyang Xun’s regular script and converted into printed typeface, and what are the similarities and differences between the typeface that became a imitation of the Song typeface in modern times and the European typeface of Song engraving. In order to fill the gap in the study of Song carved European typefaces, this article will focus on two issues: "How does Zhejiang carved European typefaces inherit the style characteristics of European regular script and develop into fonts suitable for block printing",and "How does Zhejiang carved European typefaces develop from block printing to movable type imitation Song typefaces.".Focusing on the above issues, this article will comb the morphological evolution of Zhejiang engraved fonts from the perspective of modern font design, compare different periods of Zhejiang engraved European fonts, and summarize the phased morphological characteristics of Zhejiang engraved European fonts. At the same time, taking the highly standardized European typeface(Chen Zhai Book Shop Typeface)in the late Southern Song Dynasty as an example, the morphological characteristics of its font were analyzed using quantitative measurement methods,to explore the inheritance and innovation of the European typeface to the written European typeface in the late Southern Song Dynasty,as well as the standardization degree and causes of this type of font. Finally, compared to the modern movable type imitated Song typeface, this paper discusses the impact of changes in printing technology on typeface from aspects such as structure and pen shape, and explores the inheritance and innovation of modern imitated Song typeface to Song engraved European typeface. In terms of research methods, this article will further improve the construction of research methods for Song typefaces by combining the basic methods of literature analysis and comparative analysis with quantitative measurement research methods. |
