Review Of Yun Jing’s Study Of Confucian Classics

As one of the founders of the literature group of Yang Hu, Yun Jing’s achievement in literature has already been well known. Although he has several thoughts in the Confucian Classics as well, few people heard of it.Combined with previous studies, this paper briefly introduces Yun’s family and his life.Then I sort out the content of the book which named Da Yun Shan Fang Wen Gao and summarize the language style and the literary characteristics of it.In the main part of the article, I gather the classics content of the book, make a careful and detailed analysis,extract his key points. By doing this, i find that in Yun’s opinion it’s impossible to explain the meaning of’getting knowledge understood, and he also say that there are big differences between Mencius’s theory and Confucius’s or Zisi’s. In the study of The book of Poetry, he emphasizes on the analysis of the theme of the poem and take research on the things in the poems. As to The book of History, he verifies the situation of Jiujiang in Yu Gong as well as the time that Kang Gao is written and the place to which Duke Chou has been. At the same time, he rejects ancients’mistakes, instead he emphasizes the importance to stay to the original words. When he studies The Three Rituals,Yun mainly makes textual research on the etiquette system and implements. Otherwise, Yun’s Yi-ology lays emphasis on the meaning of every trig-ram and every divinatory symbol. In the end, he highlights the significance of using Bishi to read the Spring and Autumn Period.After summarizing the content of Yun’s study of Confucian classics, this article futher summarizes the methods and ideas that Yun has taken during the research. By analyzing Yun’s research, it can be seen that he mainly uses the methods of textual criticism and putting connection between words and history throughout his studies. He also pays attention to combining truth and etiquette to study Confucian classics. Meanwhile he is good at using the method of Bishi to study the Confucian classics. In addition, Yun often stick to the original text and esteems the past over the present when talk about the ancient ritual systems.The most important thing is, no matter which book he is studying, Yun have a thorough knowledge of the content. What’s more,the idea of honouring the king has always been presented in Yun’s words.
