Chopin and Grieg are known as the greatest musicians of the nation, Chopin is an important composer of the Romantic music period, and he was good at drawing folk music material to create a unique style of romantic musical language. He shows the Poland music to the world. Grieg is 19th century European folk music pioneer,and the founder of the Norwegian national music. He devoted all his life to promote the Norwegian national spirit, the Norwegian folk music to the world stage bloom.Mazurkas and Slater piano dance music have strong ethnic and cultural characteristics. The study object of this paper is piano dance music, it will bring a comparative analysis of dance music made by the same type of piano composers from different schools. The paper also explores the development of romantic national piano dance music, so as to have an in-depth understanding of these two musicians as well as the national piano dance music and to explore the two music masters’influence to the later music creation.This paper contains an introduction, five chapters and conclusion. The introduction part mainly introduces the significance of the paper. The first chapter is the significance of this study, research status, research methods. The second chapter describes the creation of Chopin and Mazurkas, Grieg and Slater dance music. The introduction is to pave the way for the whole study.The third chapter is a comparative study on the use of national elements in mazurkas and Slater dance music. As well as it makes a detailded analysis on national dance music of two composers from the perspective of dance rhythms, modal tonality, harmony and melody. The fourth chapter is analyzes from the use of touch keys, rhythm, pedal aspects, and compare the similarities and differences of mazurkas and Slater dance music from playing technique aspect. The fifth chapter describes the influence of Chopin. In addition, from the comparative study the author get the new enlightenment.
