During the decade in news and literary circles, Wang Zhongqi is as active as another Wang Zhongqi in academia. In order to ensure the authenticity of our research on Wang Zhongqi, we must clarify their relationship firstly. Wang Zhongqi was a pivotal figure in Shanghai press as a journalist, and he wrote a lot works, involved in almost famous publications during the decade when he was in Shanghai. Zhongqi Wang wrote plenty of patriotic poems, which made him a patriotic revolutionary who cared for his country and people. In Chapter Two, we explore and discuss Wang Zhongqi’s theories of creating and criticizing novels and dramas. Following Liang Qichao’s calling for “fictional revolution”, a large quantity of theories of fictional criticism appeared, and Wang Zhongqi was also an important critic of novel theory in the late Qing Dynasty. He fully appreciated novels and dramas’ part in improving our society, meanwhile he thought the novels should be improved and proposed a modified standard for fiction novels and drama. The biggest drawback of his theories of the novels and dramas was his excessive emphasis on the social function of literary fiction and ignorance of his ignorance of the literaryness of literary texts. And the drawback was universal at that time.In Chapter Three, we focus on Wang Zhongqi’s novels and dramas. Wang Zhongqi creates abundant novels and dramas. His work A Diary on Sleepwalk in New Year is the first satirical short story published after Shenbao’s restoration. Chatting on Pedant Education published in The ALL-Story Novel prevents the readers a typical image of a private school teacher and advertises education’s functions of improving the country and its people. Short stories published on Anhui Colloquial aims at enlightening and edifying the public masses through colloquial words. The drama A Legend of Blood and Tear reflects on the current situation based on historical events, expressing Wang Zhongqi’s political mood and national consciousness.
