As an important content of TCFL, existential sentence has practical significance and be worth our intensive study. To the students whose mother tongue is English, the study of the "是" sentence and "有" sentence that stands for existence is one of the difficulties when they learn the Modern Chinese. The existential sentences in Chinese and English have different features in structures and semantic. Compare them, we can find their similarities and differences in semantics, pragmatics and syntax, and then we will find appropriate teaching strategies. The study about analyzing the strategies on English existential sentence through the contrast between Chinese existential sentences and English existential sentences is still less.Besides the introduction and the conclusion, this paper is divided into three chapters to carry out the exploration and analysis on it:The first chapter clarifies the concept of the existential sentences in English and Modern Chinese, and then lists several basic sentence patterns of the existential sentences in two languages, such as "there be" in English and "是" in Chinese. Here, we will analyze their difference from the syntactic. The second chapter is combined with the process of our practice, analyzed the influence of linguistic transference to the foreigner students when they study the "是" and "有" existential sentences. And we analyzed every types of errors. The third chapter is the main part of this paper. Based on the theory of the meaning, the features of the syntactic structure and the language study, combining with the errors made by the foreign students in the process of their study, we try to propose some suggestions on teaching existence sentences. We hope that this paper could draw our attention to the "TCFL", the study of the grammar differences between Chinese and English and the communication between Chinese culture and foreign cultural.
