Translation seems to play crucially important role in mutual exchanges of different cultures, along with increasingly frequent communication between China and other countries. Translation pays more emphasis on various cultures rather than diverse linguistics. In the exploration of translation issues, translators not only focus on linguistics, but also pay more attention to differences of cultures connecting with languages.English-Chinese translation of literary works are conductive to understanding, conflicting, and merging of Chinese culture and English-spoken culture. A Literary book is the reflection of author’s thoughts in knowing the world and expressing subjective wills. It is a necessity that translators spread ideas and talents of influential writers after introducing popular masterpieces to Chinese citizens. As a result, numerous personnel go in for literary translation. At present, benefiting from opening-up policies, domestic readers have placed gazes not only on Chinese works, but also in international popular literature. They hanker for the edification of international excellent literary writings. Thus, introduction of best-sellers has meaningful influences on exchanges between Chinese works and international writings and also shaping world conception of Chinese humanity. In this thesis, the author finds the common points of best-sellers translation are giving reader-oriented aims as priority and adopting rewriting theory in practice. And the author makes a case study of The Goldfinch translation which is done according to the characteristics of bestsellers translation versions.This thesis, basing on The Goldfinch (the No.1 international bestseller) written by Donna Tartt, is a report on the translation of its chapter II. The report consists of six parts. Part one discusses reasons for the author’s choice of The Goldfinch, previous study on the book and bestseller, motivation for writing this thesis and structure of the thesis clearly. Part two is a task description. It focuses on brief introduction to the fiction and its writer Donna Tartt and then it analyzes distinctive features of The Goldfinch. Part three gives a brief introduction of the preparation and procedure of translation. Part four introduces bestseller from three aspects, including definition, characteristics and translation theories and famous examples of theoretical utilization. The fifth part is the analysis of translation achievements and problems solving under the guidance of reader-oriented aims and rewriting theory. The author lists some examples whichuse various translation skills under the influence of Andre Lefevere’s rewriting theory who promotes translator’s manipulation on translation. At last, the author makes a concluding remarks and reflection on gains and defects during the experience of translating this work and also gives some suggestions for translators.
