GuoXi’s Landscape Painting Theory And The Consciousness Of Time And Space In His Creation

Traditional Chinese painting is a broad and profound art,of which landscape painting is one of the important categories.As an unique ancient Chinese painting,landscape painting has experienced a long process from birth,generation to maturity. The Northern Song Dynasty had witness the peak period of landscape paintings, when a unique aesthetic system and aesthetic taste formed.Compared with the previous dynasty,one of the most distinguished features of landscape paintings is the concept of time and space, leaving such an incredible mark in the whole history of Chinese paintings. Guo Xi is one of the representative figures and his landscape painting theory in his work "Lin Quan Gao Zhi" and the creation have always been a research concern of experts and scholars. This thesis attempts to examine the creation technique of Guo Xi’s landscape painting by illustrating his Early Spring. Combined with the analysis of abstract theory of Lin Quan Gao Zhi, the space-time concept that matches the real practice can be identified to extract the innovative space-time concept as revealed in his landscape paintings. Thus, his innovative innovative space-time concept is expounded. Secondly, the thesis analyzes the space-time concept of Guo Xi’s landscape paintings in aspects of aesthetics, philosophy, culture, and explain the formation of Guo Xi’s concept of time and space, and then embody its distinctiveness and system, so as to make clear understanding of the influence of Guo Xi’s landscape paintings and its guiding role in the development of landscape paintings.This thesis is divided into four parts. Chapter Ⅰ Introduction mainly briefs the research purpose and significance, present study, research method, foreseen problems and solved problems and innovativeness regarding Guo Xi’s painting art; Chapter Ⅱ analyzes his consciousness of time and space concept as presented in Lin Quan Gao Zhi; Chapter Ⅲ centers on the application and expression of the consciousness of time and space concept by illustrating the Early Spring; Chapter Ⅳ discusses the innovativeness of the consciousness of time and space concept in his landscape paintings; and Chapter V analyzes the origin of the consciousness of time and space concept.
