The concept of time plays a very important position in China’sancient philosophy. Different philosophers and thinkers of dynasties havedifferent concept of time. The concept of time from Confucian、Taoismand Zen are the most important. They have different focus on the conceptof time. But they all contain three common features: the concept of timeis always vitality, circular and heaven. Of course, this is the essence ofconcept of time of ancient China.The ancient Chinese traditional concept of time comes from theancient Chinese culture, which in turn affect the culture. The ancientChinese painting is permeated with the idea of the concept of time. Thesisattempts to put the ancient Chinese concept of time as an entry point, byanalyzing the different historical background paintings to summarizedifferent concepts of time in different dynasties, their characteristics andtry to analyze the reason.This thesis has three chapters. The first chapter describes thedevelopment of the ancient Chinese concept of time, the main featuresand how the concept of time affects the creation of landscape. The secondchapter is a transition section, introducing how the "Streams" theme comeinto the landscape, and why do I choose "Streams" as the beginning of thethesis, and which concept of time the literati express by Streams themes.The third chapter is the most important chapter. By analyzing paintings of three typical representatives——Fan kuan, Ma yuan and Ni zan, thethird chapter elaborate three different concepts of time——comply withthe time,resistance the time and beyond the time , and try to reveal thereason.
