Lu Jiuyuan, a great confucianist in Southern Song Dynasty, devoted his life in academic lectures, relying such organizational form of academic education, created School of Mind of Neo-Confucianism.All great confucianists in Song Dynasty had ultimate human care of ‘to inherit great doctrines of previous sages, and to create eternal peace’, and ‘to bring happiness to mankind as their missions, so Lu Jiuyuan was not excluded. He innovated thought and culture to evoke the national spirit and to accomplish his historical mission. Harmonious relation of Mind-Nature and philosophical connotations was the basic problem which the new Confucian explored. In Lu Jiuyuan’s philosophy, "original mind" was the supreme principle, School of Mind which he created impacted profoundly the history of Chinese thought, and Lu Jiuyuan was eponymous with Zhu Xi, known as "Zhu Lu." In the Ming Dynasty, in the history of Chinese philosophy, Wang Yangming’s developing and spreading of this doctrine formed the famous "school of Lu Jiuyuan and Wang Yangming", which has had a profound impact in modern Chinese cultural science.The formation and dissemination of Lu Jiuyuan’s ideological doctrine and inheritance and development of Lu’s doctrine had forged a indissoluble bound with the academy. His system of School of Mind was completed and developed in the academy. Academy spawned Lu’s doctrine; Lu’s doctrine also led the prosperity of academy. They influenced each other, promoted each other, so that development of academy had entered a new historical period.Interaction between Lu’s doctrine and academy can exhibit in two ways, outward expansion and internal development. Internal developments are to build their own academy, to enroll new students, to train successors of School of Mind. External expansions manifested by speaking, going out to carry out academic exchanges, in order to develop and promote their own doctrine. This form of inside out, internal and external integration was important expression method of interaction between Lu’s doctrine and academy.Lu Jiuyuan’s teaching served many people, and he had many disciples. Successors of these disciples had a strong affection of academy; they founded a large number of academies in order to further spread Lu’s doctrine. All of them promoted the prosperity and development of School of Mind, and ultimately spread School of Mind to the nation to benefit future generations. The unbroken interaction between creation, development, and inheritance of Lu’s doctrine and academy was a typical case of interaction with academy in Neo-Confucianism.Since its creation, the academy made up for the shortcomings of official school in educational opportunities, educational places, educational content, educational methods, openness of management, and the flexibility, and also won the opportunity and space to survive and develop. Liberal educational philosophy of academy is needed by universities today.
