As a part of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language(TCFL), the writing training focuses on improving the writing ability of international students. Nevertheless,typical problems of writing teaching have arisen that the majority of foreign students do not know how to write and a number of teachers do not know how to teach.Foreign students, especially the candidates of HSK. In addition, writing is a skill that they mastered it. This paper is based on Intermediate Writing Courses which are designed for Northwest Normal University international students. In an entire semester, 76 writing assignments are to be sampled from international students to summarize and analyze academic writing mistakes. And then the paper brings forward pertinently solution to problems appearing in the study. What’s more, useful guidance will serve instructional practices of TCFL.The first part of the paper indicates the purpose and significance of this study, the scope of the topic and literature, and the methodology of the research as well. The second part suggests that frequent language problems of assignments are identified.Additionally, the section shows statistical results and summaries that classified as the causes of language mistakes, namely learner’s native language effects, structure of article and punctuation. According to faulty wording, the third part makes explanations for the observations of lessons and study results by case study, show students’ compositions. The final part writing teaching summary and effective measures are concluded.The sample of this paper is randomly selected from assignments that collected from international students who study in intermediate level class of Northwest Normal University. It basically shows authentic proficiency of foreign students. It greatly reveals the deficiency of writing from international students. Hopefully, it could provide a certain reference and a huge practical value for the research in the field of TCFL.
