A Comparative Study Of Modern Chinese "Shang" And Vietnamese TREN、LEN

Space and time are two important concepts in a language expression. For people who learn a second language have to learn another language in another space concept system aside from the original expression of their native language. At this time, there would appear two situations:first, the new language and their native language have got the same points, which let them quickly master the principle of the new expression. Second, the differences between two of them lead them make mistakes during use.The thesis mainly discusses the orientation concept of "shang" when it extends its meaning and syntax. "Shang" not only indicates the meaning of spatial orientation and time, but also means an action tendency, action achievement or even an action or status starts and continues. The thesis based on the results of the previous studies, using traditional comparison method to compare the syntactic function and the meaning of location word, direction predicate verb and complement of direction-"shang" in modern Chinese corresponding with Vietnamese words "tren", "len"; find out the similarities and the differences between them, in order to help Vietnamese students have a correct and comprehensive understanding of "shang".The thesis is divided into five chapters:Chapter 1 is a review of previous research on modern Chinese "shang" and the relevant Chinese-Vietnamese comparison study.Chapter 2 separately compares the syntactic function of "shang" and "tren", "shang" and "len", then summarizes the similarities and the differences between them in the summary section.Chapter 3 compares the meaning of "shang" and "tren" as the word of location; discusses the problems that will occur during translating into Vietnamese when "shang" indicates the abstract meaning. The extended meaning of "shang" and "tren" are also made a brief introduction.Chapter 4 compares the meaning of "shang" and "len" as the predicate verb of direction, as the complement of direction.Chapter 5 generalizes the evolution of meaning and syntax of modern Chinese "shang", summarizes the same points and the differences in meaning and syntax between "shang"-"tren", "shang"-"len".
