A Project Report On The Business Match-Making Event Between Jiangsu Youth Chamber Of Commerce And PEI Province (Canada)

Since entering the new century, China has been actively involved in international communication and exchanges. On the one hand, more and more Chinese businessmen and enterprises have gone across the boundaries of different countries for political, economic and cultural activities, and on the other hand, more and more foreign businesses have come to China for investment, banking and trades. The Talks on Business Match-Making Event between Jiangsu Youth Chamber of Commerce and Canada Prince Edward Island Province is one of such international activities. As one of the interpreters in the project, the reporter is responsible for interpreting in small business talks, in which the main participants are deputy director-general of Business Innovation Department of PEI, President of Jiangsu Youth Chamber of Commerce, Project organizer, and many entrepreneurs. Though the reporter succeeded in helping both parties to communicate and negotiate and reach the agreements, the reporter encountered many problems in the process of the interpretation. For Example the speaker carries a heavy accent and much liaison which causes disturbance to listening comprehension. It is difficult for communication model to melt with specialized knowledge which makes it difficult for the two languages to be exchanged. There are too many technical terms, as the project covers a wide range of industries, including marine equipment manufacturing, aviation manufacturing, food processing and etc. Besides, the information of source language includes much extralinguistic knowledge which needs much logical analysis. With the help of various theories on interpretation, especially Daniel Gile’s Comprehension Formula, the reporter gives a detailed analysis with examples. Based on the analysis, the reporter provides various solutions to the problems discussed in the report as well as some recommendations for other interpreters.
