A Project Report Of E-C Translation Of The Subtitles Of American TV Series

This report is based on the E-C translation of American TV series-the first episode of The Big Bang Theory. This report aims to find and solve the problems and difficulties in the translation process, and to sum up the major methods.As learned from the translation practice and the comparison of the two versions, the major difficulties of this project lie in three aspects. Firstly, the conversation of sitcom contains large amount of proverbs, slangs, idioms, culture-loaded words and popular words, these words and expressions make it difficult for us to understand the screenplay precisely; secondly, because of the language and cultural differences, the translator should apply the suitable methods when translating the original humor into Chinese; the space of subtitles is limited, it is important to convey the information while keeping the grammar and use of word correct in the limited space.In conclusion, the author sums up the major difficulties and problems appeared in the translation process, and provide the appropriate solutions.
