| This is a report on a translation program, of which the original is "One off the Short List"written by Doris Lessing. This short story is about a meeting of the hero and the heroine, in and after an interview. The whole story is written in the order of trifles which happened before and after the interview, reproducing a psychological showdown in a fruitless love game. The translation report has four major chapters. The first part is introduction, pointing out the background, aim, significance of the program and the structure of the translation report. The second is mainly about the difficulties encountered in the process of the translation and the translation strategies that the translator used. For the translation of literary terms, definite usages, proper nouns, simple little words and different written ways,the translator, guided by Yan Fu’s translation theory -faithfulness,expressiveness,and elegance, uses the translation methods to deal with them from the perspective of vocabulary and sentences. These methods are domestication and foreignization, lexical addition, omitting as well as sentences splitting and combination. The fourth chapter is the summary, including the findings and achievements that the translator got from the translation program and the problems which need to be solved. |
