Minus And Left Are Equally Important

In our daily life, we are always used to focusing on the part of the picture which is used, tending to ignore the blank part of the picture. However, it is the blank part that adds artistic effects. In our field of visual art, the blank part is of equal importance with the part used. And the blank part can also be called negative space. With the continuous development of information technology and the mixture of Chinese and western culture, designers attach more and more importance to space. For example, in the field of design, the flat design is more and more favored by people, a lot of blank designed parts are also used in various fields of visual art. Actually a quantity of the blank designed parts also can be regarded as the use of negative space. Negative space is no longer just served as a foil. Artists are paying more and more attention to the expression of artistic language from the negative space. Besides, negative space can give a person different visual perception and psychological feelings. This is also the main research object of this paper.This article aims at the fields of visual art such as graphic design, sculpture, painting, paper-cut, calligraphy, photography and so on, by consulting relevant literature, this paper also analyzes psychological feeling which negative space gives a person psychologically while studies the different expression of negative space in various fields. Understanding the use of negative space in different fields of visual art and some method and skills, analyzing the aesthetic value of negative space in the field of visual art and also learning to make art using negative space in the future design, can better guide the practice.By the research and analysis of the use of negative space in the field of visual art both in the west and east, artists will be able to get a deeper understanding of negative space and thus artists can create outstanding art works using negative space in the future design. Negative space exists in our life and the field of visual art everywhere. However it requires long-term efforts to explore to taking negative space to the extreme. Therefore, this thesis mainly aims at the research and exploration of negative space and more mature understanding of negative space, so that they can communicate information better.
