The Research Of The Literary Criticism Of Monks’ Poems In Tang And Five Dynasties

With the development of the sinicization of Buddhism, the monks’ poetry creation rises since the Tang Dynasty, which followed by the literary acceptance and literary criticism. In this paper, the research object is the literary criticism of monk poetry in Tang and five Dynasties by sorting out the texts of monk poetry literary criticism, analyzing and summarizing the literary thought and studing the subjects in detail. To know the profiles of the literature reception of the poems written by monks in Tang and five dynasties and to enrich the research field of monks’ poems.This paper includes two major parts: introduction and main body. In the introduction part, firstly, to summarize the current research results about the monks in tang and five dynasties who loved and was good at writing poems and their poems. And the literature reception and criticism of the poems written by monks in Tang and five dynasties. Secondly, to explain the structure of the paper and what the research focus on. Then try to define the controversial concept of academic circles involved in the article. The main body of the paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter stated the profiles of the creation of the poems by monks in Tang and five dynasties and introduced the aesthetic feature of the poems written by monks. The second chapter is the statement of the literature criticism of the poems written by manks in tang and five dynasties’ research results includes the summarize of the materials and the analyzation of the criticism thoughts. In this chapter, the criticism subjects were classified into two categories by their identities include literary intellectuals and monks. The intimate association between tang and five dynasties’ monks and literary intellectuals through the medium of the poems made a good condition for monks’ poems accepted by literary intellectuals. And they accepted the poems written by monks gradually and criticized them by multiple expressions. Literary intellectuals admired the monks who is talented and gifted. And spoke highly of the aesthetic feature “Qing” of monks’ poems. In addition, they paid lots of attention to the function of the poems. One hand they advocated monks’ poems contribute to mission. On the other hand they also agreed with realism themes. Even though the number of criticism written by monks which is about other monks’ poems is not big, we can find the self-disciplined of monks while they writing the poem. They pursued the traditional standard of the poem and tried to created poems more like the literary intellectuals did. And they also appreciated the aesthetic feature “Qing” of poems. The last chapter studied the criticism attitude of the subjects. The subjects whose status and ideas are differ, have different attitudes toward criticism of monks’ poems.
